License Plate Access

Edited

As of October 2026, license plate-based gate access through Parkade is now available at certain locations.

Where available, getting access via your license plate is simple:

  1. Ensure your vehicle's license plate is registered in Parkade

  2. Ensure you have an active parking reservation on Parkade

Provided both of the above are true, upon approach the entrance gate should open automatically for your vehicle.

Other Requirements

Clear view of your license plate

The license plate camera needs to have a clear view of your rear license plate when you approach the gate. Make sure that your license plate is clear from any obstructions (such as a license plate cover, racks, or excessive dirt), or the camera might not be able to read your plate correctly.

Unassigned vs. Assigned Parking

If your parking reservation is for an unassigned parking spot, only the specific vehicle specified on the reservation will have access to the gate. This can be updated in the app by tapping on your vehicle under "Who's parking?"

FAQs

Q: Does this work for guests?

A: Yes! Provided your guest has been added to your reservation and they have registered their car, the gate will also open for them automatically.

Q: Will other gate access methods still work?

A: Yes! The existing in-app methods, CarPlay, and Siri all still work.

Q: What if nothing is opening the gate?

A: If nothing is opening the gate, that’s indicative that there might be an issue with the gate itself. Send us a message in this case and we’ll see if we can help.

Q: What else does Parkade use license plate data for?

A: You can read more about how we use license plate data here: https://parkade.com/alpr-policy.

Q: Is this available to me?

A: License plate access is currently only available at specific locations in California and Ohio, but we'll be expanding quickly! You can ask your property manager to reach out to our team to start the process of getting this access method at your location.

Q: Does Parkade share any license plate data with outside parties or law enforcement?

A: No.

Q: I have a temporary license plate, will that still work?

A: Yes, provided your temporary license plate is registered in the app and visible, the camera will read the temporary plate to open the gate.
